Modern entry level RC sailplanes use a very simple architecture – there are no moving parts other than the two propellers.
We call this Differential Thrust.
For starters there are less moving parts and therefore less complexity. Not bad for beginners. But definitely not the right kind for experts.
The battery is 3.7V, either 300mah or 550mah. The plug is usually the standard small white connector (MX 2.0 2P Walkera plug / Molex plug).
