RC Techtip Vid: Why FWD?

Front wheel drive is a simpler system, so it’s easier to maintain. The entire car is lighter, so front wheel drive RC car tends to go faster with the same battery and motor. It also has better traction than the rear wheel counterpart. When being compared to rear wheel drive car, front wheel drive car is easier to drive in turns as it does not fishtail that easily. It is way easier to maintain control and not skid off the track. However, there is a drawback when everything is at the front. A front wheel drive system does not push the car down the road surface as much. When you accelerate there is a weight transfer taking place which pushes down the rear tires while simultaneously taking weight off the front tires, which in turn decreases the traction of the front tires. The result is a waste of some of the motor’s torque. Still, my overall experience with a front wheel like this FF03 is quite positive. It is fun to drive, easy to setup, and has nothing much to worry about when comparing with a four wheelies.
