If you spend any time in the RC racing world, you quickly notice that Xray and Awesomatix are two brands that really stand out—but in very different ways. From a hobbyist’s perspective, both are high-end, precision machines, but they cater to slightly different tastes and approaches on the track.
Xray has this reputation for being super versatile and tweakable. Take the X4 touring car, for example—it’s got a modular design that makes it easy to adjust pretty much everything: suspension, drivetrain, shock angles, and so on. As someone who loves sitting down and fine-tuning my car for different tracks or weather conditions, Xray feels like a dream. You can dial in exactly what you want, which is probably why so many racers stick with them for years. They’re reliable, predictable, and you always feel like you can squeeze a little more performance out if you’re willing to experiment.
Awesomatix, on the other hand, has a more futuristic vibe. Their A800 series is all about pushing the envelope with lightweight components, clever suspension layouts, and innovative design choices. Driving an Awesomatix feels different from the start—it’s fast, smooth, and precise right out of the box. For a hobbyist, it’s exciting because you get this feeling that the car is doing things most other touring cars can’t, even before you touch a wrench. They’re designed to wow you with performance, and honestly, it’s hard not to get hooked.
From a track perspective, Xray is like a loyal friend: you know what to expect, you can tune it to perfection, and it’ll reward careful setup. Awesomatix feels more like a thrill ride: it’s sharp, responsive, and built for racers who want cutting-edge handling without fussing with tons of adjustments. Both have proven themselves in competitions, so you’re not sacrificing competitiveness either way—it just depends on whether you enjoy tinkering and tweaking (Xray) or want innovative tech and instant high performance (Awesomatix).
As a hobbyist, I’d say this: if you love the process of building, adjusting, and optimizing, Xray is pure joy. If you want a car that feels next-level straight out of the box and makes you feel like you’re driving something truly advanced, Awesomatix is the one to try. Either way, you’re getting a machine that’s seriously fun, seriously fast, and totally addictive once you start racing.
