A boat that travels on top of the plane of the water is known as a boat on plane. This is when a boat has the front lifted out of the water. Your speedboat will plane out only if it has a good prop driven by sufficient power (a good motor and sufficient battery power). Without sufficient power, the boat will travel with the front fully in the water trying hard to break through the waves at all time, which can be slow.

Picking a good propeller is one key success factor for a boat to plane out.

A poorly shaped or nearly broken propeller can allow the motor to spin very fast simply because it is just spinning but not actually “pushing” the water. A good one should push the water hard, not just spin fast on its own. A small but properly shaped propeller can already be very effective. A good and large one that is properly shaped can be several times more powerful, but at the expense of load and heat. One thing for sure, that is, if you change the propeller to one that has the same size and with a correct shape, you will observe an instant and visible speed improvement!

Metal prop is more solid. Plastic prop can break easily and will flex underwater.
