Pinion and spur pitch mismatch

For the Tamiya BT01, this is the max (36T pinion, 55T spur):

If there is a gear module (mod) or pitch mismatch between the pinion and spur gear, the meshing of the two gears will be flawed, leading to a number of mechanical problems—some immediate, others more destructive over time.

The module (used in metric gears) or diametral pitch (used in imperial gears) defines the size and spacing of gear teeth. If these don’t match between the pinion and spur gear, the teeth will not align correctly. These will happen:

  • Strange and weird noise.
  • The teeth will jam or ride on top of each other.
  • The teeth will slip, not transmitting power effectively.
