The good news is that many manufacturers recognize this crossover interest and produce versatile ESCs that are specifically built to be waterproof and marketed for use in both RC cars and boats. These units successfully combine the necessary electrical functionality with the physical durability and protection required for marine use. So, while a standard car ESC may not always work properly in a boat, a purpose-built or hybrid ESC that is both waterproof and equipped to handle the cooling demands of a boat absolutely will.
