Drifting

Turning off reverse on the ESC (Electronic Speed Controller) when doing RC car drifting is a common practice. In drift racing, drivers often “blip” the throttle quickly to maintain or control slides. If reverse is enabled, a fast throttle change from forward to neutral and back might accidentally trigger reverse. This can cause the car to suddenly jerk backward, ruining the drift and potentially damaging parts. Also, switching rapidly between forward and reverse stresses gears, differentials, and drive shafts. During high-RPM drifting, this sudden change in direction can snap plastic parts or strip gears.

Do note that some ESCs allow a “drag brake” or “forward-only with brake” mode — useful for drifting. It gives better control without risking reverse engagement.
