There are two major types of motor cooling coils. The first type wraps around the motor with rubber O rings on both ends. This type is primarily good for brushless motors that have totally no openings on the motor can. Brushed motors have openings all over the can so they will not be suitable for it.
The second type is formed with thin copper tube. It carries heat away through water flow. Because there is no direct water contact, it is safer for sea water operation. It is generally cheaper, and is most commonly found on configurations that use standard 540/550 motors.
