In 2WD (FWD and RWD), the traction of only two wheels is used (the other two are just rolling along). When more torque is applied than there is traction available (you accelerate too sudden and too much), the two powered wheels will break lose and start spinning. When the tires are spinning, your car may start to lose traction (and you may start to lose control over the car).
Still, as a 2WD, FWD is easier to control than a RWD.
