Connecting two LiPo batteries in series is a common way to increase the overall voltage of a battery pack. Here are the steps to connect two LiPo batteries in series:
- Make sure the two LiPo batteries have the same voltage and capacity rating. It is crucial to use identical batteries to avoid overcharging or over-discharging one of the batteries.
- Connect the positive terminal of one battery to the negative terminal of the other battery. You can use a battery connector or solder the wires together.
- Connect the positive terminal of the first battery and the negative terminal of the second battery to your ESC. These terminals will provide the overall voltage output.
Note that when you connect batteries in series, the overall voltage increases while the capacity remains the same.
Another test on a day with outdoor temperature of 13 degree and the stock silver can still runs fine:
The Mabuchi RS540 Silver Can is a compact motor that measures approximately 36mm in diameter and 53mm in length. It typically weighs around 170 grams. It was originally designed to operate at a voltage of between 4.8 and 7.2 volts DC, and can reach speeds of up to 20,000 RPM.
Not all silver can clones can withstand this power level even under extreme cold weather. We tried a 14T silver can from Johnson Electrics and it fails within 2 minutes (the plastic cover end cap is melting)!
To be safe, do this only with genuine Japan Mabuchi RS540 or other 550 motors. Most 550 motors can withstand 4S power under cold weather.
