A ESC capable of differential thrust is being used to turn a hand thrown glider into a RC glider.<\/p>\n

This ESC takes 3.7V power, with one single yellow wire going to channel 2 and a standard differential output control to channel 1. It does not supply power to the receiver, so the battery connector is modified to supply power to the receiver directly and separately.<\/p>\n

Pay very careful attention to the props. Different manufacturers have different specs and colors for the props. If the wrong prop is used on one side, weaker than normal thrust will be produced and your plane will consistently biased towards one direction.<\/p>\n

Two-Blade plastic props are the most common for small RC planes, providing a good balance between thrust and efficiency. Tractor props pull the plane through the air and are mounted at the front of the aircraft, while pusher props are mounted at the back of the plane, pushing it through the air. They may look similar but with tiny difference in shape and pitch, which can lead to huge problem when flying.<\/p>\n

Also pay attention to the prop colors. On a plane with two props (one on each side) the props are mostly red and black OR red and blue. They differ in color for a reason – they help you identify which one to use on what side. If props of the same color are used on both sides, make sure you test thoroughly. Again, if the plane is consistently biased towards one side, chance is that the wrong prop is being used on either side.<\/p>\n
